I found this to be an intriguing photography of an obviously lower class alley neighborhood in an unknown urban area that shows some of the residents. The photo seems to be a critical commentary on the living conditions of the urban lower class. The garbage cans on the left of the image reinforce the critical edge of this image.
I like the way the photo frames the neighborhood with the two rows of buildings on each side of the image and the way they form parallel lines out to a distant, and misty (thus somewhat mysterious) vanishing point. The image of the two standing figures on the right are balanced by the two standing on the porch to the left. The sense of depth of the image is reinforced by the small figure of a man off in the distance to the left. The figures leaning out of the windows on the right of the image give a sense of the crowded conditions that must have prevailed in this late 19th century urban environment.
I am a retired corporate refugee, who has been interested in photography since long before the advent of digital technology. I am excited about the photography program at NVCC and I am looking forward to receiving my degree from this program. I have been involved in digital photography for the past two years and belong to a couple of local photography clubs.
